Chlorine removal from the pyrolysis of urban polyolefinic waste in a semi-batch reactor

The pyrolysis of urban chlorine-containing polyolefinic plastic waste with simultaneous retention HCl is investigated. Different chemical removers based on sodium, calcium and zinc bases, different adsorbents alumina or zeolites were used inside the reactor in downstream hot filters, respectively, for chlorine removal upgrading oils. Initially, polyolefin (POW, containing a 98.5 wt% polyolefins) was thermogravimetrically pyrolyzed to determine its thermal behaviour. Subsequently, mixed POW which at 480 °C semi-batch reactor. tested separately filters (300 ± 20 °C) After pyrolysis, resulting char absorbents analysed by FTIR, CHN elemental analysis ESEM-EDS their respective contents. highest 23.8 remover when direct contact POW, while zeolite filter (gas streams) gave 65.6 wt%. pyrolytic liquids consisted mixtures C7-C40 hydrocarbons made up olefinic aliphatic very low presence aromatics (estimated be below 3 HPLC). In most cases, processes resulted waxier oils higher degree branching.
